Quick Answer: JPSC Exam Pattern 2025

JPSC CCSE follows a three-stage pattern: Prelims (2 papers × 100 questions × 2 marks = 200 marks each, no negative marking; Paper II is Jharkhand-specific GK, qualifying only), Mains (6 descriptive papers — 2 qualifying language papers + 4 GS papers of 200 marks each counted in merit), and a Personality Test (Interview) worth 100 marks. Final merit = Mains Papers III–VI (800 marks) + Interview (100 marks) = 900 marks total. Prelims marks are not counted in final selection.

Exam Pattern-Based Preparation Strategy

Prelims Strategy

Since there is NO negative marking, attempt all 100 questions in both papers — never leave any blank. For Paper I (merit basis), focus heavily on Jharkhand GK which carries significant weight. For Paper II (Jharkhand-specific, qualifying), you need 40% (80 marks out of 200) for General category. Prioritise Jharkhand History, CNT Act, SPT Act, tribal revolts, and geography for Paper II.

Mains Strategy

Only Papers III–VI (800 marks) + Interview (100 marks) = 900 marks count for final selection. Mains Paper I (Hindi & English) is qualifying — you need only 30 marks out of 100, so do not over-invest time here. For Paper II (Regional Language), choose a language you are genuinely comfortable with. Focus most preparation time on Papers III–VI. Among these, Jharkhand-specific content appears across Papers III, IV, and V — do not ignore it.

Interview Strategy

The interview carries 100 marks out of 900 total — a significant 11.1% of your final score. Start interview prep 2–3 months before. Prepare thoroughly on Jharkhand issues, tribal governance (PESA Act, Fifth Schedule, Forest Rights Act), Jharkhand economy and development, and Jharkhand current affairs. Read Prabhat Khabar daily. Practice mock interviews with Jharkhand-focused panels.

Frequently Asked Questions — JPSC Exam Pattern

What is the exam pattern for JPSC CCSE 2025?
JPSC CCSE follows a three-stage selection: Stage 1 (Prelims) — 2 objective-type papers (Paper I: General Studies, 100 questions, 200 marks; Paper II: Jharkhand-specific GK, 100 questions, 200 marks). No negative marking. Stage 2 (Mains) — 6 descriptive papers. Stage 3 (Interview, 100 marks). Prelims marks are not counted in final merit.
Is there negative marking in JPSC Prelims?
No. As per official JPSC CCSE Rules 2021 and confirmed by Drishti IAS, there is NO negative marking in JPSC Prelims. Both Paper I (General Studies) and Paper II (Jharkhand GK) are marked without any deduction for wrong answers. This means you should attempt all 100 questions in each paper.
How many questions are there in JPSC Prelims?
JPSC Prelims has two papers, each with 100 objective-type (MCQ) questions worth 2 marks each — totalling 200 marks per paper (400 marks total). Paper I covers General Studies; Paper II covers Jharkhand-specific topics. Each paper is 2 hours long. There is no negative marking.
What does JPSC Prelims Paper II cover?
JPSC Prelims Paper II is NOT a CSAT paper. It is a Jharkhand-specific General Studies paper covering: History of Jharkhand, Jharkhand Movement and State Formation, Land Laws (CNT Act and SPT Act), Geography of Jharkhand, Economy, Literature, Dance, Music, and Tourist Places of Jharkhand. It is qualifying in nature — marks are not counted for Mains shortlisting.
