15th JPSC Foundation Batch

The recruitment has now reached an unusual stage. Candidates who qualified the Preliminary Examination were called to apply for the Mains, and JPSC had ultimately scheduled the Backlog 2025 Mains for 8, 9 and 10 August 2026 in its revised examination calendar. Those examinations were subsequently postponed along with the other examinations listed in the 9 July calendar. (The Times of India)

As of 16 August 2026, the JPSC recruitment page for Advertisement No. 05/2026 still lists the PT result and the July Mains-related notices, but does not display a fresh Mains examination date. (JPSC)

For complete preparation material, candidates can use JPSC Notes and the JPSC Syllabus.

What Is JPSC Backlog 2025 Advt. 05/2026?

The Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Backlog Examination 2025 was notified separately from the regular Combined Civil Services Examination under Advertisement No. 01/2026.

Advertisement No. 05/2026 concerns backlog vacancies that remained unfilled in reserved categories from the relevant recruitment cycle.

It should therefore not be confused with:

  • regular JPSC Combined Civil Services 2025 – Advt. 01/2026;
  • JPSC Backlog 2023 – Advt. 06/2026;
  • Assistant Public Prosecutor Backlog – Advt. 05/2025.

The advertisement number is particularly important because several JPSC recruitments currently contain the word “Backlog”.

JPSC 05/2026 Vacancies

The recruitment was issued for 45 backlog vacancies across the Jharkhand Civil Services framework. Contemporary reporting on the official notification also records the total as 45 vacancies. (The Times of India)

Candidates should therefore search using:

JPSC 05/2026

rather than simply searching JPSC backlog, because another Combined Civil Services backlog examination is simultaneously being conducted under Advertisement No. 06/2026.

JPSC Backlog 05/2026 Important Dates

The recruitment has already passed through several important stages.

JPSC’s PT-result notice confirms that the Preliminary Examination was conducted on 17 May 2026 and that the result was published on 6 July 2026. (JPSC)

JPSC Backlog PT Exam 2025

The Preliminary Examination for Advertisement No. 05/2026 was held on 17 May 2026.

Like the regular JPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination, the backlog PT served as a screening stage for entry into the Main Examination.

JPSC subsequently published:

  1. preliminary answer key;
  2. corrected answer key;
  3. final PT result.

The preliminary answer key was released on 11 June 2026, while the corrected answer key followed on 4 July 2026. (JPSC)

JPSC Backlog Result 2026

The JPSC Backlog 05/2026 PT Result was officially released on 6 July 2026.

The result PDF contains the roll numbers of candidates declared successful in the Preliminary Examination. JPSC also issued instructions for successful candidates to complete the next stage of the recruitment process. (JPSC)

Candidates who qualified were required to submit a separate online application for the Main Written Examination.

What Happened After the JPSC Backlog Result?

After declaring the result, JPSC opened the Mains application process from 7 July 2026.

The Commission’s instructions required successful candidates to:

  • fill the Mains application online;
  • select a Paper II Language and Literature subject;
  • select Hindi or English as the answer-writing medium for the other Mains papers;
  • upload prescribed certificates;
  • indicate service preferences;
  • submit the required hard copy within the prescribed period.

JPSC’s 6 July instructions set the online Mains application window up to 14 July 2026 at 5 PM, with hard copies to reach the Commission by 20 July 2026 at 5 PM. (JPSC)

JPSC Paper 2 Language Selection for Backlog Candidates

One particularly important requirement in the Mains application concerned Paper II – Language and Literature.

The official instructions required candidates to choose one Language and Literature subject for Paper II. (JPSC)

The available options include:

  • Nagpuri;
  • Khortha;
  • Santhali;
  • Mundari;
  • Kurux;
  • Kurmali;
  • Panchpargania;
  • Ho;
  • Khadia;
  • Hindi;
  • English;
  • Bengali;
  • Urdu;
  • Sanskrit;
  • Odia.

Paper II carries 150 marks and its marks count toward Mains merit.

Candidates should therefore treat language selection as a scoring decision rather than a formality.

JPSC Backlog Mains Exam Date 2026

The Mains examination date changed more than once.

Initially, JPSC’s 7 July 2026 press release placed the Backlog 2025 Mains under Advertisement No. 05/2026 on:

  • 1 August 2026
  • 2 August 2026
  • 3 August 2026

The same notice scheduled Backlog 2023 Advt. 06/2026 for 25–27 July. (JPSC)

However, JPSC changed the programme shortly afterward.

Revised JPSC Backlog Mains Date

The 9 July 2026 revised examination calendar changed the sequence of the Civil Services Mains examinations.

The revised programme was:

ExaminationRevised Date
Regular JPSC Mains 2025 – 01/202625–27 July 2026
Backlog 2023 – 06/20261–3 August 2026
Backlog 2025 – 05/20268–10 August 2026

This made 8, 9 and 10 August 2026 the latest scheduled dates for the Backlog 2025 Mains before the wider postponement. (JPSC)

Is JPSC Backlog 05/2026 Mains Postponed?

Yes.

JPSC subsequently postponed the examinations contained in the 9 July examination calendar. Reports based on the Commission’s postponement notice stated that all nine recruitment examinations in that schedule were deferred until further orders. (The Times of India)

That included the:

Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Mains Examination Backlog 2025 – Advertisement No. 05/2026

which had been scheduled for 8–10 August 2026.

Therefore, those dates should no longer be treated as active examination dates.

What Is the New JPSC 05/2026 Mains Date?

As of 16 August 2026, JPSC has not published a fresh Mains date on the dedicated Advertisement No. 05/2026 recruitment page.

The latest documents displayed there remain:

  • PT result and instructions – 6 July;
  • Mains notice – 7 July;
  • revised-date notice – 9 July.

No subsequent examination programme is presently listed on that recruitment page. (JPSC)

Therefore:

8–10 August = old/postponed dates

New date = not yet published on the recruitment page

Has JPSC Backlog 2025 Been Cancelled?

There is an important distinction between the official recruitment page and subsequent government announcements.

On 9 August 2026, reports stated that the Jharkhand government had agreed to cancel the 14th JPSC, JPSC Backlog 2023 and JPSC Backlog 2025 examinations. (The Times of India)

On 12 August 2026, the Chief Minister also announced in the Assembly that the 14th JPSC examination would be cancelled and indicated that the two backlog Civil Services examinations would also be scrapped. (The Economic Times)

However, as of the latest check, the dedicated JPSC page for Advertisement No. 05/2026 still displays the recruitment and has not added a formal cancellation order to its list of notices. (JPSC)

Therefore the precise current position should be stated as:

Government cancellation has been announced, while candidates should await the formal JPSC recruitment-specific cancellation/order defining the final status of Advertisement No. 05/2026.

This distinction matters because an announcement and the formal administrative order are not the same document.

JPSC Backlog 2025 vs JPSC Backlog 2023

Two backlog Combined Civil Services recruitments are running under different advertisement numbers.

The official JPSC page for Advertisement No. 06/2026 separately records its answer key, corrected key, PT result and Mains notices. (JPSC)

Why Students Confuse 05/2026 and 05/2025

There is another common problem.

Advertisement No. 05/2026 refers to:

Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Backlog Examination 2025

But:

Advertisement No. 05/2025 refers to:

Assistant Public Prosecutor Backlog recruitment

They are completely different examinations.

Always check both:

advertisement number + examination name

before downloading any result or answer key.

JPSC Backlog Mains Pattern

Candidates who qualified the PT were preparing for the standard six-paper JPSC Mains structure.

PaperSubjectMarks
Paper IGeneral Hindi & General English100
Paper IILanguage & Literature150
Paper IIISocial Sciences – History & Geography200
Paper IVConstitution, Public Administration & Good Governance200
Paper VEconomy, Globalisation & Sustainable Development200
Paper VIGeneral Science, Environment & Technology200
Total1,050

Paper I is qualifying, while the other merit-bearing papers require serious descriptive preparation.

Use the complete JPSC Syllabus alongside JPSC Notes.

JPSC Backlog Paper II

Backlog candidates have the same important Paper II decision as candidates in the regular Combined Civil Services Mains.

Paper II is:

Language & Literature – 150 marks

The candidate has to select one language.

Major Jharkhand-language options include:

  • Nagpuri;
  • Khortha;
  • Santhali;
  • Mundari;
  • Kurmali;
  • Kurux;
  • Ho;
  • Panchpargania;
  • Khadia.

Because these marks count toward merit, candidates should prepare the actual language and literature syllabus, not just grammar.

JPSC Backlog Previous Question Papers

JPSC currently lists previous question-paper sections for both:

  • Civil Services PT Backlog 2025 – Advt. 05/2026
  • Civil Services PT Backlog 2023 – Advt. 06/2026. (JPSC)

Candidates preparing for any future stage should also use JPSC Previous Year Question Papers to compare the level of the backlog examination with regular Civil Services papers.

What Should JPSC Backlog Candidates Do Now?

Until a formal final recruitment order appears, candidates should preserve all important documents connected with the recruitment.

Keep copies of:

  • original application;
  • registration details;
  • PT admit card;
  • PT result;
  • Mains application;
  • submitted certificates;
  • hard-copy dispatch proof;
  • language preference;
  • service preference.

Candidates who had qualified PT should also avoid deleting their Mains preparation material because any future administrative order will determine how the recruitment proceeds.

How to Check JPSC Backlog 05/2026 Status

The safest method is to search using the advertisement number.

Go to the official JPSC examination section and locate:

Recruitment of Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Examination (Backlog)-2025 Advt. No. 05/2026

The dedicated page currently contains notices for:

  • notification;
  • advertisement;
  • PT instructions;
  • answer key;
  • corrected answer key;
  • PT result;
  • Mains;
  • revised examination date. (JPSC)

This is more reliable than searching simply for “JPSC backlog” because several different backlog recruitments exist.
