Eligibility
Educational Qualification
A candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in one of the prescribed science, agriculture, forestry or engineering areas. These include Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science, Forestry, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Zoology and Environmental Science, or an eligible degree in Civil, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
Age Limit
The minimum age is 21 years, calculated with reference to 1 August 2024. The normal upper limit is 35 years for unreserved and EWS candidates, 37 years for EBC-I/BC-II men, 38 years for women in the specified categories and 40 years for SC/ST candidates. Other relaxations apply only where the advertisement permits them.

The walking test is qualifying, but it requires specific preparation. Build weekly distance gradually, practise at the required pace, use tested footwear, and avoid trying a new shoe or nutrition plan on test day. Final eligibility remains subject to JPSC measurement and medical standards.

FRO Syllabus: Areas That Matter
General Studies and Jharkhand
Prepare history, national movement, polity, economy, geography, science, current events and Jharkhand-specific history, culture, resources and administration. Jharkhand carries a distinct share in the preliminary paper and should not be treated as a final-week addition.
Forest and Environment Preparation
Revise ecology, biodiversity, wildlife conservation, silviculture, forest management, forest mensuration, soil and water conservation, social forestry, agroforestry, climate change, forest policy and environmental law. The official subject syllabus should decide the boundary of preparation.
Jharkhand Examples
Useful examples include Sal-dominated forests, Palamu Tiger Reserve, Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, elephant corridors, forest fires, mining-affected landscapes, lac and minor forest produce, joint forest management, watershed restoration and the rights and livelihoods of forest-dependent communities.
