The Meghalaya delegation was led by Vijay Kumar D, commissioner and secretary to the state government and chairman of the Meghalaya Natural and Organic Farming Society for Livelihood and Innovation in Agriculture (MEGNOLIA). He outlined the state’s organic development roadmap centred on community-driven farming models, ecological sustainability and institutional support. The presentation stressed how farmer collectives are aligning with global organic standards, traceability requirements and sustainability benchmarks through policy backing and certification frameworks. A defining aspect of Meghalaya’s participation was the inclusion of farmer representatives. Trinity Saioo, a Lakadong turmeric cultivator from Jaintia Hills, and Ringnang Kongkal Sangma, a black pepper farmer from Garo Hills, interacted with international buyers and certification agencies.
Extensive engagements were held with organic traders, development institutions and procurement partners to explore long-term export collaborations. Farmers noted that exposure to global quality standards and value addition practices would strengthen competitiveness. Meghalaya’s organic expansion is being driven under the State Organic Mission 2028, which aims to bring one lakh hectares under certified organic cultivation. The mission focuses on institutional strengthening, capacity building and market linkage development. The state has already established export markets for premium products such as Lakadong turmeric, pineapple, ginger, Khasi mandarin and black pepper.
