JPSC Minimum Qualifying Marks

Qualifying percentages are eligibility thresholds under the rules; they are not the same as the competitive cutoff produced by a result.

CategoryMinimum qualifying percentage
General / Unreserved40%
SC, ST and women32%
EBC-I34%
BC-II36.5%
Primitive Tribal Group30%
EWS40%

Qualifying marks vs cutoff

Qualifying marks are the minimum percentage prescribed in the examination rules. Reaching them does not guarantee shortlisting.

Cutoff marks are the result-stage score required for a category or service after the commission considers performance, vacancies and the selection process.

07

What Determines the JPSC Cutoff?

The commission does not use one permanent cutoff. Each examination produces its own category and stage-specific result.

Vacancies

The number and category distribution of advertised posts affect the last selected score.

Candidate performance

The overall score distribution determines how closely candidates are placed around the selection boundary.

Paper difficulty

A tougher or easier examination can shift raw marks, so different cycles should not be compared mechanically.

Reservation category

JPSC publishes separate vertical and, where applicable, horizontal category cutoffs.

Exam stage

Prelims, Mains shortlisting and final service allocation answer different selection questions.

Service preference

Final service-wise marks vary because vacancies and candidate preferences differ by service.

Prepare beyond the cutoff

A previous cutoff is a benchmark, not a target score. Build a margin through complete syllabus coverage, Jharkhand-specific revision and regular test analysis.
